Reading groups honor Dave Wallace

Dave Wallace, assistant superintendent for personnel and programs, has received the Indiana State Reading Association's Excellence in Reading Award.

The award is given to one person each year who has shown outstanding achievement in the area of reading and the promotion of literacy.

North Elementary School is the recipient of the association's Exemplary Reading Award in recognition of its outstanding reading and language arts program. (Read about this award by clicking on North Elementary School's link above.)

Mr. Wallace also will be receiving the International Reading Association's Special Service Award at the International Reading Association?s annual conference in New Orleans in May. That award is given from time to time for unusual and distinguished service to the International Reading Association.

Mr. Wallace's service to the reading council dates back to 1975 when he was a member of the Indianapolis Area Council. He helped found the Hamilton County Council of the IRA in 1989. He has served the state and international councils in a variety of capacities for a number of years. He has been president of the both the Indianapolis Area Council and the Indiana State Reading Association.

He has been with Noblesville Schools since 1969 when he began teaching at Stony Creek Elementary School. He later taught at Conner Elementary. He has been an assistant superintendent since 1975.
