Newsletter for May 12
THE PRINCIPAL'S POINTS - As we enter the final weeks of our first year as an elementary school, we will often reflect back on those many volunteers who have given so much of their time for the students and staff of White River. There are many to mention, but with the help of our teachers and clerical staff, we have attempted to be certain that you have been invited to the upcoming Noblesville elementary schools' Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on Friday, May 26. The luncheon will be hosted by White River Elementary School at 1 p.m. in our school's cafeteria. We hope that you will plan to join us as we recognize those parents and friends who we gratefully acknowledge for their contributions to our successes.
- Mr. Harvey
MANY THANKS - - -
Please join White River Elementary School in praising the efforts of BETH MEISTER, P.T.O. President, throughout our first year as an elementary school. We appreciated Mrs. Meister's leadership, organization, and patience with our organization. We are extremely proud of her representation of our school, as well for all of her time that she so willingly gave. Also, many thanks to JUDY WAY and BARB GRAHAM for their outstanding organization of the first-ever White River Family Fun Carnival. It was a great time for students, parents, and friends of our school to gather together for fun times! The games, food, and raffle were terrific!
EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION TEACHER AWARD - On Monday, April 3, the Christel DeHaan Family Foundation announced that it will award a total of $100,000 a year to ten outstanding educators in Indiana. With the support and assistance of Arthur Andersen, the Excellence in Education Teacher Award will be presented during the John R. Wooden Tradition this November. Mr. Wooden, a native of Martinsville, states, "I am first a teacher. Anything that can be done to elevate the success of teachers in Indiana is dear to my heart. I am delighted that we are using the Wooden Tradition to showcase teaching excellence." This is a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge effective educators throughout our state. To qualify for the award, an educator must spend the majority of his/her day instructing students in Kindergarten through 12th grade in an accredited or non-public Indiana school. Anyone can nominate a teacher, but an administrator within the school or district must support the nomination. Nomination forms are availabl
e in our school's office. The deadline for nomination is June 9, 2000. Once nominations are received, the teacher will be given details about the application process. Please contact Mr. Harvey if you have any questions or need to obtain more information regarding the Excellence in Education Teacher Award.

SKIPPING TOURNAMENT RESULTS
Noblesville Super Skippers just finished the year with a competition at Shelbyville on April 29. This was an all-day contest involving eight Indiana rope skipping teams. We enjoyed the day as competitors as well as spectators. It is always fun for us to learn new tricks that we can integrate into our routines next year.
The following list only includes White River student placements in the tournament:
5th Place - 8-9 year old Medley Event - Laura
5th Place - 8-9 year old Freestyle Wheel - Laura and Elizabeth
3rd Place - 8-9 year old Freestyle Quads - Kayla, Kaylee, Elizabeth and Laura
Now is a good time to think about trying out for Super Skippers in the fall. When you have "nothing to do" this summer, jumping a rope is an excellent idea. it is a great exercise for your body as well as being just plain FUN ! ! If you need a rope, see Mrs. Scott before school is out. She will sell you one for $2.00.
