This is a copy of a message from Stony Creek Elementary, Principal, Bob Mc Daniel to his students and parents last week.

"For the last several years, people know that airports are not the place to joke about guns, bombs, or other threats. Serious federal and state consequences await those who make such comments - serious or not. Unfortunately, schools around the country can no longer tolerate similar student threats - serious or not. They must adopt the "airport mentality" of zero-tolerance for such actions. It is important that students and parents understand that our schools intend to treat any expressed threat seriously with potential consequences, including suspension and/or expulsion....It is imperative that parents and students discuss this topic together to avoid misunderstandings or significant disciplinary consequences.

Please take a few moments to talk with your child about the serious nature and consequences of making threats to others. Also, please stress once again the importance of reporting such threats to an adult in the school immediately. Together we can continue to keep school a safe and secure place for all. Thank you for your cooperation.

Report Cards........
Report cards will be sent home with students in grades 1-4 on today, March 23. Please take the time to discuss your child's progress with him. We want everyone to give his best effort.
Kindergarten parents, you will receive a Progress Letter from your child's teacher. Please mark the appropriate spaces and return to school.

Volunteer Data Sheets are required to have been completed and approved for anyone who wants to accompany a class on a field trip or volunteer in the school. It often takes several weeks for these applications to be approved by the State Police. Please don't cause your child to be disappointed when you are unable to volunteer at school simply because you have not complied with this requirement.

You cannot go on a field trip without having an approved volunteer form on file.

Reminder......Volunteer Data Sheets
A reminder to parents that as part of School Board Policy #3121, an individual desiring to help as a volunteer in Noblesville Schools must complete a "Volunteer Data Sheet." This information will be kept on record to help us best use your talents in our schools. This form will also be used as a permission slip for a Criminal History Records check, required if you plan to volunteer in our schools for field trips and/or other school activities when you would have sole care, custody or control over students. We have been experiencing long delays in the background check process from the Indiana State Police. Even if you turn your application in several weeks before an activity, we cannot guarantee that it will be processed in time by the State Police to have you approved for a volunteer activity. We apologize for this situation and hope you understand how part of this process may be delayed beyond our control. We will not be able to approve any volunteer who does not have this security check completed.

4th Grade Parents.......
The fourth grade field trip to Corydon, Indiana, will be May 10 and 11 of this year. Please make sure that if you are planning on attending this field trip, you have the required "Volunteer Data Sheet" completed. As stated above this process takes time.

Notable News.....
Music was definitely in the air the last week in January!
Tom May and Paige's Music were kind enough to sponsor our "Instrument Petting Zoo" again this year. The children had an opportunity to test their skills at playing the members of the orchestral string family during music. Kindergarten joined us as well! If you are interested in learning more about the fabulous instrument opportunities provided by Piage's Music, please do not hesitate to stop in during conferences and see me for informative pamphlets. Mrs. Krent, Music Teacher

This program, offered by Noblesville High School teachers Mrs. Carol Land and Mr. Dave Mc Collough, offers an encouragement for the love of reading through good role models, as well as opportunities for older and younger students to interact positively in an academic setting. Their weekly, one hour visits will allow these high school students to individually interact by reading to a classroom of students for a fifteen minute period. They will visit each Tuesday for six consecutive weeks. We?re very excited about this cooperative program with N.H.S.

Kellogg's cereals have a program where the kids can enter in under their own passwords special codes found inside the cereal boxes and they collect points by doing so. There is an on-line catalog that the kids can choose prizes from with points they have earned. At the same time, they can choose their school and when they enter their codes for points, the school designated will earn $.10 a code. The web site is www.EETandERN.com Sometimes the Kelloggs boxes don't have a code inside and then if you send that part of the box to a given address, Kelloggs will go in and update your account once they receive the information in the mail.

Note from the Nurse

It is flu season again! Some children are returning to school while they are still sick and must be sent back home.

CHILDREN MUST BE FEVER FREE FOR 24 HOURS BEFORE RETURNING TO SCHOOL.
Please keep your child home if he or she has:
1. a fever of 100 degrees or higher.

3. vomited in the morning before school.
4. too weak or tired to stay awake and do school work.

Remember all medicine must be in the original container and brought to school by the parent or guardian. Children are not allowed to keep medicine at their desks.

Parent Reminder
Have you had a change of telephone number, change of address, or change of employment since the beginning of this school year? Did you notify the school office of that change? We have had several situations already this year when a child became ill, injured, or missed a bus, and the telephone numbers on your child's enrollment form were either disconnected or changed. For us to contact you in emergency situations, you must provide the school with any changes that would affect our ability to contact you. Please send a note with any changes so we can update our records. Thank you for your help in this matter.
