As always, student attendance is very important, and students should make every effort to attend school during this testing period. Parents are asked to lend your support by encouraging your son or daughter to do their best. Adequate rest and a good breakfast will help students perform to the best of their ability. A DATE TO REMEMBER - Although more information will certainly be sent home closer to the actual day, we want our parents, grandparents, and special friends to know that we will be observing GRANDPARENTS & SPECIAL PERSONS DAY later this spring. VARIETY/TALENT SHOW - MARCH 1st - Talent Show entry forms are available NOW from Mrs. Hensley for those students who want to participate in this year's big event. Three separate half-hour shows will be presented beginning at 5:00, 5:45, and 6:30 p.m. A 50¢ donation will be taken at the door and pizza, pop, and brownies will be sold in the cafeteria throughout the evening. If your child is planning on participating, make sure they turn in the entry form right away. Only a limited number of acts will be accepted due to the time restraints of the program. This is one of my favorite events of the year as students showcase their various talents. Mrs. Hensley
ATTENTION SCIENCE FAIR PARTICIPANTS - After looking over the Project Information Sheets, the Science Fair Committee is concerned about the number of projects that seem to be demonstrations. A demonstration is a project that shows what you know about something. A diagram or model of something with no test or experiment is a demonstration. For example, a rock display or a volcano is a demonstration. An experiment is a test to find the answer to a question you have. Testing the best environment to grow a bean plant is an experiment. As stated in the packet, demonstrations will automatically receive an Honorable Mention. Please look over your project information. We would like for everyone to have an experiment to display at the fair. If you have a question about your project, we will be offering one more help session from 3:30 - 4 p.m. in the Media Center on Wednesday, February 16th. If you come to the help session, please bring all your project information with you. The Science Fair Committee will ne
ed to see this information to help determine if the project is a demonstration or an experiment. Thanks.

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART UPDATE - All White River students recently watched a video showing how they could help the American Heart Association by raising funds for research and education. Many people, probably you know someone personally, have had their lives extended due to the research that has been done in heart disease. By now all students (grades 1-4) should have brought home a "Jump Rope for Heart" envelope. The following steps should be happening now:
1. Sign the "Parent Permission Waiver Statement," tear it off the envelope, and return it to your classroom teacher.
2. Determine whom you can ask for a donation (talk to parents about this). If these people are out of town, phone, write, or e-mail them explaining that you would like their help in collecting donations for the American Heart Association. They can mail donations to you, and you can collect them in your envelope. Any checks need to be payable to the American Heart Association.
3. Fill out your envelope - if you have collected $50 or more, be sure to include shirt size. Remember donations are due on February 23, 24, and 25. Please bring them to your classroom teacher on those days. The final collection day will be Friday, March 3. Any donations turned in after that will not be eligible for prizes. Any questions may be directed to Mrs. Scott, 770-2080.
P.T.O NEWS
The P.T.O. originally scheduled a sock hop for February 29th, however, because we have so many activities and programs during this month and next month, we have postponed the sock hop and will reschedule a dance or other social activity for later this spring.
On Wednesday, February 16th, the P.T.O. will be bringing in treats, baked goods, and snacks for the faculty and staff. Ay parent who is interested in donating an item, please drop it off at the school on the morning of the16th! THANKS!
Tuesday, March 7th at 7 p.m. is our next P.T.O. meeting. This will be designated as FOURTH GRADE PARENT NIGHT. We have invited the fourth grade teachers to come and talk a little about what is going on in fourth grade. The teacher with the most parents in attendance will receive a prize for her room. Free babysitting is available.
Don't forget to fill out the P.T.O. Parent Survey that was sent home earlier this week! Not only will this help us to start working on volunteers for next year, but also gives us suggestions on fundraising options, as well. Please take a moment to fill it out and return by February 18.
Thanks to all of our great volunteers for our EVERYBODY COUNTS program. We had great parents who did a fantastic job!
