NHS Parent-Teacher Conferences
Oct. 17, 2000
12:30-4 p.m. & 5:30-8 p.m.

The NHS faculty and administration cordially invite you to parent-teacher conferences on Tuesday, Oct. 17 in individual teacher rooms.
Students will be dismissed from school at 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct 17 and 18, but conferences will be held on Tuesday only.

As parents, you will have the opportunity to meet with teachers on a walk-up basis without scheduled appointments. We do ask that each conference be limited to no more than five minutes in length so that all parents may be served.

Parents should park in the main southeast parking lot and enter through the auditorium doors. Please register with student assistants at the tables just inside these doors.

A listing of teacher locations will be provided, and individual student schedules can be supplied if you do not know your student's teachers. However, it will save you time waiting in line if you come prepared with a list of your student's teachers.

Grade cards will be distributed during the conferences.

Homecoming festivities will take place Oct. 2-6.
The festivities kick off on Sept. 30 in the cafeteria with the homecoming dance from 8-11 p.m.
Float building starts on Oct. 2 and continues through the week. All class floats will be built at the high school.

Powder puff football takes center stage on Oct. 4. Junior and senior girls will battle it out on Swanson Field at 7:30 p.m.

For students Friday, Oct. 6 will be exciting because of the mini-olympics. Students will be in school the entire day, but in the afternoon their classes compete at Swanson Field in a myriad of different activities.

At 3:30 p.m., the traditional parade will begin. The parade will form in the southwest parking lot of the high school.

The parade will move south through the parking lot to Monument Street, west on Monument to 16th Street. The parade will turn south on 16th Street to Logan Street, right on Logan Street to 9th Street, right on 9th Street, and right on Monument.

The parade will follow Monument back to 19th Street and the football field, or return to the high school.

Homecoming concludes with the Millers taking on the McCutcheon Mavericks at 7:30 p.m. at Swanson Field.

Challenge Retreat held
Eighty students, nominated by teachers, were involved in the leadership challenge retreat on Sept. 22 at the Forest Park Inn. It was an opportunity for students to learn leadership skills.

Students help with cleanup
German Club and National Honor Society members helped on Sept. 16 with the White River cleanup.

Nov. 22 IS a school day
The high school calendar/handbook lists Wednesday, Nov. 22, and Thursday, Nov. 23, as Thanksgiving vacation. The vacation is on Nov. 23 and 24. Please note that students should be in classes on Nov. 22.

Photo date set for seniors
Studio One will be returning to NHS on Oct. 26 to take senior portraits (head and shoulder photos only) for the yearbook. If seniors don't have their pictures taken by Studio One, they will not appear in the yearbook.

There will be a sign-up list in Student Services on Oct. 9. The pictures are taken during the school day, and there is no cost to the student.
Underclassmen Retake Day has not yet been set. As soon as the picture day packages arrive, a date will be set. Students should listen to the announcments for information.

Media Release information
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act ensures that sensitive information about students is kept confidential.

The law specifies, however, that certain non-sensitive "directory information" may be released for any purpose at the discretion of the school corporation with notification of such intent.

Noblesville Schools considers "directory information" to be a student's name, age, grade level and school, earned awards and degrees, honor roll recognition, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, and weight and height of members of athletic teams. This information typically is used in news stories about student achievements and classroom activities.

If for any reason, parents object to this information being released they must put their request in writing and direct the request to Sharon Trisler, Public Relations Coordinator, at 1775 Field Drive, by Oct. 31, 2000.

In addition, parents who object to their child being photographed or interviewed by the news media for publication/broadcast/web page purposes must put that objection in writing and mail or deliver the objection to Mrs. Trisler at the above address.

SPFC: Attend their next meeting on Oct. 25
By Pam Stewart
Welcome back to school. We are off to a great start. By virtue of being a parent, student or faculty member of NHS, you are a member of the Student Parent Faculty Council. This is the group more commonly known as PTO at other schools.

Several years ago, we changed the name and the makeup of the group because we felt it was important at this age level to include students.
Our most recent project was to purchase a cement bench for the Beautification Project for the the new cross country course. If you have an opportunity, stop by and check it out.

Our September and October projects include providing breakfast and lunch for the students and faculty for the Leadership Academy on Sept. 22 and helping with many of the homecoming festivities.

We will also be providing dinner for all faculty at Parent Teacher Conferences on Oct. 17.

SPFC meetings are on the third Wednesday of each month in the NHS cafeteria. Please come and get involved in your child's high school years.

You will have many volunteer opportunities that present themselves at these meetings, and it will help you keep in touch with what is going on at the high school.

Due to fall vacation, our next meeting is Oct. 25.

I look forward to seeing you all there. Please bring a friend and come support NHS, and more importantly, your child.
