Accent on Atha
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the everyone in the Forest Hill Community for all they have done for me in my first semester as principal at Forest Hill Elementary.
I knew that transitioning to a new position in the middle of the school year would be both exciting and challenging. It also has been very rewarding for me because of the wonderful staff and parents here at Forest Hill. I cannot tell you how much my family and I appreciate the warm and caring attitude that is shared by all at Forest Hill. I am already looking forward to the start of school in August. Thank you again!
I want to invite everyone to our Honor Day Programs on Thursday, May 31, 2001. We will be recognizing the primary students in the morning and the intermediate students in the afternoon. I hope to see you there.
Thought for the Week: The greatest hunger a person has is to be needed. Help create that feeling in others.
Have a great weekend!
Mr. Atha

Accent on Atha
Next week is Secretaries Week and I am sure that everyone already knows that Forest Hill has two wonderful secretaries in Marie Stover and Suzanne Feight. I can personally speak for the outstanding job these two ladies perform on a daily basis at Forest Hill. As you know, no matter how busy they are, they always have time for a friendly welcome and a helpful hand. If you get the opportunity next week, please let Mrs. Stover and Mrs. Feight know how much we appreciate everything they do for our school.
Your child should have brought home a Summer Vacation? packet containing an activity book and a CD-ROM for you to preview. I want to reemphasize that there is no obligation to purchase anything. The deadline for returning the materials or purchasing them is Tuesday, April 24, 2001

Accent on Atha
I would like to say a big thank you to Mrs. Saddler, Mrs. Norman, and all the staff who helped in the coordination of the Spring Program. The entire program is very well done and the kids are looking forward to tonight.
With the tragedies that have happened recently in schools across the country, please take a few moments to talk with your child about the serious nature and consequences of making threats to others. Also, please stress the importance of reporting such threats to an adult immediately. Together we can continue to keep our school a safe and secure place for all.
Thought for the week: "Value your listening and reading time at roughly ten times your talking time. This will assure you that you are on a course of continuous learning and self-improvement." -Gerald McGinnis
Have a great weekend!

It often takes several weeks for these applications to be approved by the State Police. Please do not cause your child to be disappointed when you are unable to volunteer at school simply because you have not complied with this requirement.

I would like to thank the PTO for the new playground supplies they bought for the children to use while at recess. It seems like we go through a lot of balls, jump ropes, and frisbees each year, but if you consider that we send more than 400 children outside two times a day everyday, you realize that you get your money's worth with playground supplies.
Our first and second grade students will be taking the Terra Nova standardized test starting Monday, March 5, 2001. These test results help us assess the academic progress of our students and are invaluable in our continuous school im-provement efforts. Research shows that the level of adult presence in the classroom has a positive impact on test results. To this end, we are looking for parent volunteers who would be interested in helping proctor these tests. Please understand that you need not have a child in first or second grade to par-ticipate. If you are interested, please contact me at the school by Wednesday, February 28. Thank you for your help as we seek to attain an accurate measure of our students? progress.
Thought for the week: Success is living up to your potential. That's all. Wake up with a smile and go after life. Don't just show up at the game or office. Live it, enjoy it, taste it smell it, feel it. - Joe Kapp
