Noblesville Schools' ISTEP+ Results

Noblesville Schools released results of the 1999 Fall ISTEP+ test during a news conference on Wednesday, January 26.

Students in grades 3, 6, 8 and 10 took the ISTEP+ test in September.

The percentage of students who met or exceeded Indiana Proficiencies is as follows:

Grade 3:
Math, 80 percent
English/Language Arts, 75 percent
Total Battery, 67 percent

Grade 6:
Math, 67 percent
English/Language Arts, 66 percent
Total Battery, 59 percent

Grade 8:
Math, 76 percent
English/Language Arts, 82 percent
Total Battery, 70 percent

Grade 10
Math, 78 percent
English/Language Arts, 85 percent
Total Battery, 74 percent

The National Percentile Scores can be used to compare one group of students to students in the same grade nationwide who took a similar test. For example, Noblesville's third-grade National Percentile score for the total battery of tests is 77 percent. It means that the third-graders scored in the top 23 percent of students nationwide. The scores are as follows:

Grade 3:
Total battery, 77 percent
Reading, 70 percent
Language, 74 percent
Mathematics, 79 percent

Grade 6:
Total battery, 73 percent
Reading, 71 percent
Language, 71 percent
Mathematics, 76 percent

Grade 8:
Total battery, 77 percent
Reading, 74 percent
Language, 76 percent
Mathematics, 79 percent

Grade 10:
Total battery, 78 percent
Reading, 78 percent
Language, 78 percent
Mathematics, 79 percent

In summary, the following can be said about student performance on the test:

1. On the average, Noblesville students performed better on the test than 70 percent of all the students taking ISTEP+ in all areas (reading, language, mathematics, total battery).

2. For the total battery of tests at all grade levels, students are achieving above their ability level on ISTEP+.

3. In meeting expected levels of performance in both Language Arts and Mathematics, the percentage of students meeting the state standards range from a low of 66 percent at grade 6 in Language Arts to a high of 85 percent at grade 10 in Language Arts.

4. When looking at special education students counted in totals of students not meeting performance expectations, the percentage of special education students account for a low of 12.1 percent at grade 3 to a high of 14.6 percent at grade 6.
